Renting electric cars started out with low-range Leafs and such, which many users didn't like because of range anxiety. Now you can rent excellent EVs privately and from the majors in cities all over the US, and in various other countries. It's much better than a short test drive at a dealership for deciding whether to make the switch, and which EV to lease or buy.

Oct 16, 2013 - Over the last few years, several large rental firms have helped the electric car cause by adding plug-in vehicles to their rental fleets.
The good news is that people are certainly renting those cars. The bad news is that they aren't doing so for very long, and it's due to a familiar electric car sticking point: range anxiety.
According to Bloomberg, customers trying out Nissan Leaf electric cars as part of Enterprise's rental fleet are swapping them for more conventional cars after 1.6 days on average.
So let's look at how it is now. Which of the rental majors is in, and what are they renting?
Also, consider that in 2022, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance and others, electrics will become cheaper than gas guzzlers (some models in some markets). Why would you want to pay more to rent a stinky gasoline car? And if you want luxury, Tesla is the name of the game.
