ACA Signups: The Uninsured

There are several documented reasons for tens of millions of people in the US to lack health insurance. There are remedies for all of them: ignorance and misinformation (especially about Medicaid), the legal bar on the undocumented, state refusals of Medicaid expansion, even intransigent refusal to buy insurance at all. Numbers and policy discussion below.

As expected, the torrent of numbers on signups has fallen off considerably since the end of almost all Open Enrollment. So I am not doing these ACA Signups diaries every day now, but brainwrap and I will definitely keep going. He has pledged to continue through the next Open Enrollment, scheduled to run from November through February, unless, as some suggest, it gets extended. We have numbers today, particularly continuing news of Medicaid expansions, including "woodworkers". We also have data from hospitals on the declining rate of uninsured people going to the hospital for care, but only in Medicaid expansion states.

In addition to signups numbers, and numbers of insured and uninsured, we are starting to get real numbers on the polling in races where the ACA and protecting Medicare are hot-button issues. That will continue to ramp up. Today, it's Rachel Maddow and the Democrats' Secret Sauce for the midterms, along with the absolute glee not only from Rachel but from many on the Left at the Right's absolute discomfiture over having no real issues that they can run on.

Have I mentioned #Benghazi? Did you hear that Fox was fact-checking Karl Rove? No, no, no, I never said Hillary was brain-damaged! Who, me? She was just wearing funny brain injury glasses after she hit her head!
