Grokking Trumpists: A New Book List

Trump & Co. are the epitome and attempted apotheosis of White male fear, hatred, and grift, far beyond what I wrote about in Grokking Republicans six years ago. Fortunately, the research has kept up, as we have seen in part in earlier Diaries in this series.

We can begin to understand where, finally, it is all going now that the haters are a shrinking, if shrieking, minority, and are about to be revealed as the biggest Losers and Suckers of modern times. To the extent that we believe them when they tell us, or worse, show us by their actions, what they are really about, and begin to comprehensively vote the rascals/ganefs/malefactors/loonies out.

We have made good progress in this series, and there is much more to come, both by taking another look at our original sources, and by taking up a selection of new ones.

In the last four years, there have been more than 1,200 unique titles about Mr. Trump, compared to around 500 books about former President Barack Obama and his administration during Mr. Obama’s first term, according to an analysis by NPD BookScan. There have been so many high-profile books about the Trump era that there’s even a book about all the Trump books: What Were We Thinking: A Brief Intellectual History of the Trump Era, by the Washington Post book critic Carlos Lozada, surveys some 150 titles that try to explain how Trump won and has governed, and what his presidency tells us about the country that elected him.

No, I'm not going all the way there. We will look closely at those that have had the biggest impact, and glance at some that have made the biggest splashes.
