Time for another look at Truth Brigade posts out in the wild. We have a wider range of posters and topics than last time, and we are all polishing the Truth Sandwich technique that we learned from George Lakoff and then tweaked for our needs, as above. Truth Brigade: The George Lakoff Truth Sandwich
The tricky bit is to find a truth to start with that the other side will agree to. Patriotism often works. Calling out corruption in politics can work, too, as can citing acknowledged Conservative authorities.
- The foundation of American democracy is the self-evident truth that we are all created equal.
- The essence of the Constitution is To Secure the Blessings of Liberty to Ourselves and Our Posterity.
- When you take the Pledge, it is not just to the Flag, but to the Republic with that Liberty and Justice that we want For All.
- We all want elections free of fraud.
- Truth is our most valuable resource. (And therefore politicians have learned to be most sparing in its use.—Mark Twain)
- Toleration is good for all, or it is good for none.—Edmund Burke
After that, there is no difficulty calling out the motives for hypocrisy, and asserting what needs to be done.
Sorry at having to hack at Thomas Paine in order to fit him to the Procrustean Twitter channel. Anyway, Paine wrote a pretty good Truth Sandwich for never having heard of the concept.
