“Economic insecurity” as a motive for Trumpism was always nonsense, no matter how many pundits put it about for years, and no matter how much the MSM endlessly interviewed rural Republicans and uneducated workers. It was always a Dog Whistle for racism, misogyny, and nativism, as part of the Republican Southern Strategy Starve the Beast pact: tax cuts for the rich in exchange for cutting social programs. In plain English,
Those People are after your jobs.

But let us not go overboard.
The threat now is not another insurrection. 1/6 may have been a practice run for the Radical Wrong, but it was also concentrated practice for law enforcement, intelligence, and the National Guard, including the DoD command structure, and a wake-up call for politicians and the non-denialist public. We now officially believe in domestic terrorism as an actionable matter, in a manner that Republicans used to be able to prevent.
The threat is not Jim Crow-style voter suppression and gerrymanders, either. Well, not when we get the various voting rights bills now in Congress to President Biden to sign into law.
The threat is domestic terrorism directed at honest and competent voting officials, plus political insiders with malice aforethought.
