Ukraine knows well about the horrors of war. We have a mother’s lament from an earlier instance today, along with the latest news and world reactions. So here it is again, as Vladimir Putin feeds his fragile ego with the miseries of others once more.
Russia invades Ukraine. Putin declares war, Mark Sumner, DK Staff
President Zelenskiy is asking for help. He needs more than the US and Europe are willing to give, that is, he needs us to take on the entire Russian military, under the continuing threat of Mutual Assured Destruction from nukes. He needs us to take out Russian jets, tanks, rocket launchers, and ships.
Not happening.
NATO will defend its borders, and we will impose a series of more stringent sets of sanctions.
Putin sent Russian troops into two “breakaway” regions of Ukraine, and recognized them plus a lot of other Ukrainian land as countries. The Russians were expected to storm into the rest of Ukraine in a few weeks, after getting control of those two provinces settled, and after a barrage of cyberattacks and disinformation and further false flag attacks against Ukraine. But no. It’s on.
Missile attacks on command and control sites and anti-aircraft batteries in Kiiv have begun, and the Ukrainian government has responded with a declaration of martial law. Tanks are coming in from Belarus. There have been naval landings in Odessa. The wave of refugees has begun.
By the time you read this, things will be much, much worse.
