Truth Sandwiches: Two-Years Hate vs. Eternal Love

We have taken note of Hakeem Jeffries laying out a barrel of love for American values, which is felt as burn on the Wrong-Wingers and the Ultra-Crazies, and of McCarthy’s hypocrisy and Airing of Grievances on being sworn in as House Speaker. That tendentious speech was the official start of the current Two-Years Hate that is following on decades of previous fear, loathing, rage, and hate, in a manner borrowed from George Orwell’s 1984.

Wikipedia: Two Minutes Hate

The horrible thing about the Two Minutes Hate was not that one was obliged to act a part, but, on the contrary, that it was impossible to avoid joining in. Within thirty seconds any pretence was always unnecessary. A hideous ecstasy of fear and vindictiveness, a desire to kill, to torture, to smash faces in with a sledge-hammer, seemed to flow through the whole group of people like an electric current, turning one even against one's will into a grimacing, screaming lunatic. And yet the rage that one felt was an abstract, undirected emotion which could be switched from one object to another like the flame of a blowlamp.

But unlike Big Brother, they can’t force that on the rest of us. We can take advantage of holding the Senate and the White House, and knowing how to peel off Representatives from time to time, to block their worst impulses and pass some useful laws. They can hold bogus hearings, but they can’t pass anything of their own.
